Annotation

These songs represent a portion of the abundant cultural heritage of America. Some are folk songs, native flowers that grew out of the life of the cowboy on the lonely Western range, out of the ground of the south and the hopes of African-Americans, on the green hills imagined by Irish-Americans in the busy cities, or in another of the thousand souls that make up the historical soul of the American landscape. Other songs were composed by individuals and have grown into American favorites. --liner notes
