Early Hours can mean a few different things: Are you winding down after being up all night, or are you just rising to meet the sun? For OddKidOut, his edition of the Apple Music DJ mix series was a chance to create a “morning moment.” “The entire hour is a long cup of coffee that gets you ready for the day,” he says. “And with each sip, you find both past and future nostalgia.” The Philadelphia native says this is the first chill mix he’s ever made, designed to reflect the feelings of waking up and starting the day. Among his favourite tracks are Pocket’s remix of “i think you're cool” by Zeds Dead featuring Jenna Pemkowski, which reminds him of when he moved to LA (“I’d drive around the city listening to it on repeat”), and “Show Me Up” by Lil Tecca, which he calls the mix’s “sore thumb.” “It still fits the vibe, but it’s the one part that challenges the listener and is a bit of a departure,” he says. “I don’t like playing it safe.”
